Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued four initial break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
